Online Resources for the Texas Learning Community

Amarillo Public Library Est. 1902The Amarillo Public Library now provides unlimited access to TumbleBook Library, which is an online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach young children the joys of reading in a format they'll love.

Other search engine and reference sites for children:

  • Ithaki for kids is a powerful metasearch engine that searches other engines simultaneously, removes the duplicates, ranks the results and shows them in one page.
  • Yahooligans searches its subject tree of child-safe and popular sites.
  • Ask Jeeves for kids - lets students type in questions and then it gathers websites where the answer might be found.
  • Internet Public Library for kids - lots of online references available.
  • KidsClick! - a web search engine for kids maintained by librarians. Use search words or use their subject tree of 600 high-quality sites.
  • ALA Subject Tree - over 700 kid-safe websites organized in a subject tree maintained by the American Library Association.

  • Funbrain.com - a site with games in math, grammar, spelling, science and culture.
  • Discoveryschool.com - lots of homework help with links to other good sites.
  • World Almanac for Kids - a great site with quizzes, games and interesting information on lots of different topics.
  • Time for Kids - a news site with current events of interest to children, plus links to games and homework help sites.

Here are some cool, but gross, science sites:

  • The Yuckiest site on the internet at Discovery Kids.com lets kids explore topics such as eye gunk, vomit and other bodily excretions and the science behind these fascinating subjects!
  • American Museum of Natural History: Infection, Detection, Protection: This site's focus is on germs, bacteria and disease and also has skill-building games that help with reading comprehension and vocabulary.
